Why I gave up on ""Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson"
by A Latter-day Bluestocking
I didn’t so much as give up on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as I couldn’t get started! I am not sure why exactly except the mood I was in couldn’t take the characters and their perpetual state of impairment. I had no patience for it; perhaps I’ll pick it up again when I am in a better mood.
I dug this one. It petered out near the end, but it was just such a good glimpse of a demented space and time.
The book that I really gave up on was “The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter.” I started reading it for English, Freshman year of high school I think. You open the book… and everyone is so sad and depressed. And the writing doesn’t push you forward. AND WHY ARE YOU READING THIS?
Other book that I never finished? The Bible. I thought I’d try to read it through, and the sheer boredom of Genesis reminded me why I ran from faith like a literary critic from a Sarah Palin book.
